Looking Abroad: 1955-1975

Andy III was the total opposite of his playboy father. A god-fearing, hardworking product of the depression, he was determined to build on the strengths of AndrewCo while resisting the vices that, in his view, were his father's downfall.

The postwar years were good to AndrewCo. And as Andy III solidified the company's dominance in the domestic market, he established a new presence overseas. But though the company thrived, Andy III felt there was something missing in his life.

In 1975, in a move that shocked even his closest advisors, Andy III resigned as CEO and became a missionary in Central America -- handing over the reigns to the 4th generation -- Andy IV.

Though Andy III was a natural corporate leader, his true dream was to be a railroad engineer. In 1958, he purchases his very own, fully operational diesel locomotive for business trips and the occasional family outing.

Cornish Game Hens?
It must be bonus time!

A pioneer in field of employee incentive programs, Andy III's generosity was legendary. A tradition since 1961, gleeful Andyco employees still look forward to a plump Cornish game hen in their pay envelope each holiday.
