The Beginning: 1895-1927

Andy Sr. was born in rural upstate New York in 1872. An accomplished athlete and part-time thespian, he joins the US Navy in the early 1890's. Andy soon stands out from the other sailors for his commitment to good hygiene, and his active involvement with the USS Rhode Island's Glee Club.

In 1895, Andy leaves the navy. With only $3 dollars and a rusty fruit cart to his name, he starts The Andrew Company. His commitment to quality, value and innovation becomes legendary throughout the Horseheads NY region. In 1900 he marries and soon has a boy, Andy Jr.

In 1927, at the age of 55, Andy Sr. is killed in a bizarre dairy farm accident. Andy Jr., eager for a larger office and his father's company car, follows in his father's footsteps -- leading The Andrew Company to new heights.

Though he's best known as an accomplished industrialist, Andy Senior's first love was singing with uniformed, virile young men in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

More History

Though debilitating bunion problems limited his playing time, Andy held the dog in all team photos.
